TUBES OUT!!

WOW!! Tubes just got taken out! Things went pretty fast. Nurse came in to give some meds to ease her through the process. Probably a good thing.. it put her 'out' for the most part. I told her she was going to sleep through the most exciting milestone of her recovery? :-) It was tough, uncomfortable, and painful... and it was painful for me to watch. She wanted me to be holding her hand, and it was amazing how fast the team would work to snip at the sutures, pull of tape, pull wires. It was painful to watch her suffer when they pulled the tubes, but relieving to see how quickly and efficiently they did it. Gill was not happy, to say the least, but it didn't take long at all for the meds to continue their work, and she was quickly "out of it".. she was resting a bit, when the x-ray tech came to take a pic of her lungs. Later as the meds wear off, we need to work on getting up and out of bed, walking around, and most importantly, breathing to get her lungs working to full capacity. I thinkg getting up and around will be much easier without having to lug around two large drain bulbs, and carrying the other drain bucket.

I was just chatting with the nurse about how it will/should be easy with Gill to motivate her to get up and around since in general, she doesn't like to just sit still, she's restless, etc. Just scroll back to the blog post about her Catheterization recovery.

So... it is looking very much like we may go home tomorrow. It still is very much dependant on how much she walks around, and how much she can really maintain her oxy-sats.
